India's Anti-Corruption crusader Anna Hazare, a night spent in the capital of Tihar jail, Delhi, in spite of a government decision to free him.
Mr. Hazare on Wednesday morning, hours before the start of a hunger strike against a proposed new law to curb corruption and was arrested.
He left the prison only if he was an aide to a city park is not allowed to continue his fast.
An overnight vigil outside the prison to keep hundreds of his supporters.
BBC's Mark Dummett in Delhi, said that the government is unsure how to respond to the situation.
