Everton's Tim Cahill says players should be willing to suspend the start of the Premier League season in support of the emergency services.
The Australian spoke after in Cardiff.Everton are due to play at Tottenham on Saturday, but Cahill said: "We could only play for the right reasons.
"For us if we have to sacrifice an extra week at the end of the season to finish off the games, then so be it."
The first weekend of the season is under threat, with police having been stretched for five nights as they attempt to quell riots which have broken out in city centres across England.

QPR owner Bernie Ecclestone thinks calling off Premier League matches would send out a "terrible message" but Cahill believes football cannot ignore the consequences of this week's events.
"I think the main thing we have to be aware of at the moment is that it's just a football game. There are a lot of sad, sad things going on around the country and it's important the focus is on putting things right and rebuilding," the 31-year old said.
"If it doesn't go ahead it's not a big deal - football can be played at any time - the most important thing is making sure people are safe.
"You have to think about the police who are working day in, day out.
"They are human beings, we need to reward them, people need to help them. I know it's not up to us, but that is important."

"For me, being in England for 14 years now, it's important that everyone pulls together and makes sure we get back together again," he added.
"You have to make sure no-one gets hurt.
"From a football point of view I can't wait to play and I'm sure plenty of our fans have made arrangements to travel down there [London] but it's very hard for the police to work as hard as they're doing.
"If it goes ahead I'll be buzzing but if it doesn't I'll understand because it's such a sad time at the moment."
