The London market continued to rise in early trade, extending the rally seen in late trade on Tuesday.
Shortly after trading began, the FTSE 100 index was up 63.55 points, or 1.2%, at 5,228.47. On Tuesday the index had ended 1.9% higher, the first time it had closed higher in seven sessions.Nearly all shares in the index were up, with mining firms and financial stocks seeing the largest gains.
The rise in the FTSE followed a strong rebound in US stocks late on Tuesday.
The rebound came after the US Federal Reserve said it would keep interest rates at near zero for at least two years.
The US Dow Jones index closed up nearly 4%, and in stocks in Asia also rose overnight, with Japan's Nikkei index closing up 1.05%.
