Angelina Jolie

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie paid a surprise visit to Sarajevo with her partner Brad Pitt to receive an honorary award at the city's film festival.

"I will start crying if you don't stop," Oscar-award-winning actress said as the audience at the Sarajevo National Theatre took to their feet for a standing ovation.
The Hollywood star, known for her humanitarian engagement across the world, visited Bosnia with Brad Pitt last year for the first time as an ambassador for the UN refugee agency.
She returned with an idea for a film, a love story between a Bosnian Muslim woman and a Serb man on opposite sides during Bosnia's 1992-5 conflict.
Although she had planned to shoot parts of the film in Sarajevo, the film was eventually made in Budapest after a group of war survivors objected to the filming, saying that her script was offending rape victims.
The Sarajevo film festival was launched towards the end of the Bosnian capital's 43-month siege by the Bosnian Serb forces as an act of defiance. Since then it has grown to become the largest film festival in the region.
