he two French journalists held hostage for 18 months in Afghanistan have returned home.
Cameraman Stephane Taponier and reporter Herve Ghesquiere were kidnapped with Afghan colleagues near Kabul in December 2009 while on assignment for French TV.
France has refused to say whether a ransom was paid for their release or that of their Afghan translator Reza Din.
Speaking to the BBC's World Service, Herve Ghesquiere said he believed a deal had been done with the Taliban to secure their freedom, which was not granted "for chocolates".
