Fire deaths news broken to Helensburgh father

A man critically injured in a fire at his Helensburgh home has been told that his son and daughter died in the blaze.

Thomas Sharkey, 55, and his 46-year-old wife Angela escaped from their burning first-floor flat. Mrs Sharkey, who is also in a critical condition, has been transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Their son Thomas, 21, and daughter Bridget, eight, were killed following the fire on Sunday.
The police are treating the case as a murder investigation.
Both parents were initially too unwell to be told about the deaths of their children.
Strathclyde Police have said that their incident room has received many valuable calls from the public. Fifty officers are working on the case.

Det Insp Anne McKercher said: "We have a dedicated team of officers currently working on this investigation, following a number of lines of inquiry.

"Officers are continuing to speak to local people within the community, conducting door-to-door inquiries and gathering any information which could help us trace whoever is responsible.
"We will continue to pursue all areas and I would still like to continue my appeal to people to contact us.
"Any piece of information, no matter how insignificant it may appear, could prove vital in our investigation."
Anyone with information has been asked to contact the police or Crimestoppers.
Det Insp McKercher added: "A family has been left devastated and they are doing their best to try and come to terms with what has happened."
